Cinepapaya
PeruEntertainmentFounded 2012
Cinepapaya is a Peruvian online and mobile ticketing platform that solves the problem of accessing movie and festival tickets by providing a digital sales channel for entertainment events. Founded in 2011 or 2012 in Lima, the company originally started as a database for movie distribution before pivoting to an online ticketing platform, eventually expanding its operations to include markets such as Chile. The startup gained significant traction by raising approximately $2.55 million in funding from investors including Movile, 500 Startups (now 500 Global), and angel investor Gonzalo Begazo. In 2016, Cinepapaya achieved a major exit when it was acquired by the US-based entertainment technology company Fandango, marking a notable success for the Peruvian startup ecosystem.
