Kingo
GuatemalaEnergyFounded 2013
Kingo is a Guatemala-based technology startup that provides affordable clean energy and connectivity solutions to people and small businesses in off-the-grid (OTG) communities. It addresses the lack of access to modern energy and internet, which are barriers to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. Kingo designs and operates high-uptime systems for last-mile service in remote areas where traditional wired infrastructure is too challenging or costly to deploy. The company serves approximately 700 communities with an aggregate population of 250,000 people, mostly subsistence-level farmers at the bottom of the pyramid, and operates in Guatemala and Colombia. It uses internet-of-things (IoT) technology to help consumer goods and financial services companies expand to OTG areas, and it raised an US$8m Series B from investors including FCP, ENGIE, FMO, Proparco, and H-Reff, with existing investor PeopleFund, to expand to four new markets and launch five new products.
