MetaMap is an identity verification and authentication startup that provides identity infrastructure for emerging markets, particularly Latin America. The company, originally founded as Mati in California and based in Mexico City, uses AI-based solutions to verify and authenticate user identities, solving KYC and fraud prevention problems for digital businesses. It raised a US$70 million Series B round and has raised a total of US$86 million from investors including Spero Ventures, Tribe Capital, Kima Ventures, Dorm Room Fund, and Blackhorn Ventures. MetaMap expanded to Brazil and was acquired by Incode, a global identity verification leader, to strengthen Incode's market position and global scale. Forbes recognized MetaMap in its annual list of likely unicorns, and the company had an estimated 2020 revenue of US$4 million.
